Historical square of Yekaterinburg

The dam of the City Pond is the oldest building in Yekaterinburg, located in the center of the Iset River within the historical square. This is a classic factory dam (209 m long, 42.6 m wide, 6.9 m tall) with a wide cut in the center to drain excess water. Through the side cuts, water was once supplied to the wheels (fashioned as a type of water mills), which set in motion the factory mechanisms. Construction of the dam was started in 1721 by Vasily Nikitich Tatishchev, an outstanding Russian historian, geographer, associate of Peter I.
